Family & Community Medicine

About

The Department of Family and Community Medicine teaches in virtually every aspect of the curriculum at NEOMED. From the introductory psychosocial clinical medicine courses, the required clerkships in the M3 year, to electives and research opportunities in the M4 year, we are integral to the education of our students throughout their academic careers. We are the academic home to six family medicine residency programs in four different cities, as well as the Northeast Ohio Network® (NEON®), our practice-based research network. A leader in faculty development, our Fellowship in Academic Medicine (FAME) boasts more than 200 graduates since it began in 1990.

We are also home to some very strong programmatic offices, including Ohio’s Region III Area Health Education Center (AHEC), the administrative offices of the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health (CEOMPH) Program, strong educational Offices of Geriatric Medicine and of Palliative Care, and a unique Office of Public Health Practice that is home to the first-in-the-nation academically affiliated departments of public health. Our Bioethics Certificate Program is also available for medicine and pharmacy students. We also proudly sponsor the annual William Carlos Williams Poetry Competition which is open to all medical student poets.
