Promoting Jail Diversion Alternatives for People with Mental Health Disorders
The NEOMED Department of Psychiatry Coordinating Centers of Excellence, which includes the Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence, the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health and the Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center serve as national models of for disseminating state-of-the-art programs and practices that promote recovery and improve the lives of individuals with schizophrenia and other mental illnesses — as well as the lives of those around them.
Ohio Governor approves $4M grant to NEOMED for diversion program training and technical assistance
A new Substance Use Deflection Center of Excellence within NEOMED’s existing Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence will be established to undertake this work. The center will also conduct research on enhancing the effectiveness of deflection and diversion programs.

Sequential Intercept Model
Working with SAMHSA’s National GAINS Center, the CJ CCoE developed a conceptual model to approach the over-representation of people with mental illness.
