Northeast Ohio Medical University’s (NEOMED) mission is to create transformational leaders and improve health via a vision to forge the future in innovative health education and research excellence. Aligned with that mission, the College of Medicine’s mission is to inspire medical students to become exemplary patient care-centered physicians, who seek to improve the health and quality of life of the communities of Ohio and beyond, including those that are diverse and underserved.
Guided by these missions, the Admissions Committee strives to admit students who will practice as integrated providers in the communities of Ohio and beyond. The College of Medicine is committed to developing transformational leaders who work to achieve improved outcomes and enhance healthcare for all.
Recognizing that physicians treat a vast variety of patients and that some areas of medicine are lacking a sufficient workforce to reach all patients; the College of Medicine uses a holistic approach in its admissions process that is compliant with federal and state laws
The College of Medicine Admissions Committee’s holistic approach identifies groups of students who are more likely to increase the numbers of practicing physicians in areas of workforce shortage including those from a rural background; those disadvantaged economically or educationally; and those who are military-affiliated, including but not limited to, those who have served or are expected to serve in the armed forces; those who are enlisted, veterans, graduates of a military academy, granted a Health Professions Scholarship Program scholarship, and those with Montgomery GI Bill benefits. The College of Medicine will strive to recruit and matriculate students from these identified groups.
Recruitment, admission, and retention of all qualified students are high priorities for the College of Medicine. The University’s strategic plan requires that each College deliver an exceptional, student-centered experience for all students as they prepare to enter the medical professions. University and College resources are deployed to provide all students with a consistent, welcoming and supportive environment in their academic pursuits and campus life.

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 3345.016, NEOMED declares that it will educate students by means of free, open, and rigorous intellectual inquiry to seek the truth; equip students with the opportunity to develop the intellectual skills they need to reach their own, informed conclusions; will not require, favor, disfavor, or prohibit speech or lawful assembly; create a community dedicated to an ethic of civil and free inquiry, which respects the autonomy of each member, supports individual capacities for growth, and tolerates the differences in opinion that naturally occur in a public higher education community; treat all faculty, staff, and students as individuals, to hold them to equal standards, and to provide them equality of opportunity, with regard to those individuals’ race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
