2017 Leadership Portage County graduating class

Learning to Lead

Three Northeast Ohio Medical University employees were part of the recent 2017 Leadership Portage County graduating class. Richard Kasmer, Pharm.D., J.D., who in June became Dean of the College of Pharmacy as well as Vice President for Academic Affairs, completed the nine-month educational leadership development program along with Angela Bennett, digital marketing specialist, and Jill Thompson, assistant director of admission.

Members of the group met each month to travel throughout Portage County, learning about its unique culture as well as its strengths and challenges. As a group project, they donated supplies and cash to help renovate the Miller Community House, a shelter in Kent. The graduates also helped with renovations, including painting, installing new blinds, flooring and carpet. Miller Community House provides emergency shelter and supportive services to area residents who are experiencing a housing crisis, and works with other nonprofit agencies to help those in need get back on their feet.
