NEOMED-Affiliated Urology Residency Program

Cleveland Clinic Akron General (CCAG) sponsors a fully accredited Urology residency program that is affiliated with NEOMED. This residency utilizes three teaching hospitals in Akron, Ohio: Cleveland Clinic Akron General, Summa Health, and Akron Children’s Hospital. The residency is overseen by the Medical Education committees at both adult institutions (CCAG and Summa).

The mission of the Urology residency program is to train qualified and board-certified urologists for clinical practice or fellowship. Mastery of the six core competencies, as designated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), forms the blueprint for this community-based training. This is supported by an extensive core curriculum as well as a comprehensive conference schedule. Participation in research as well as preparing presentations for regional and national meetings are also integral parts of this educational endeavor.

PGY-1 Residency

The Department of Urology offers two PGY-1 positions in the residency program. Training encompasses the entire scope of urology, including urologic oncology, male infertility, endourology, minimally invasive surgery, robotics, reconstruction and female pelvic medicine. The pediatric experience is extensive and is included in rotations during the PGY-2 and PGY-4 years.

The program consisPGY-1 year includes 6 months in general surgery and 6 months of general urology at CCAG and Summa. The program fulfills the American Board of Urology requirements for five years of post-graduate training required for board certification.
