Office of Geriatrics

Chief Resident Immersion Training (CRIT)

This innovative program promotes collegiality as well as learning. The agenda is highly interactive, with small group discussions and evidence-based mini-lectures. It is built around a geriatric surgical case from presentation in the emergency department to hospital discharge.

As part of the program chief residents are assigned a mentor to help them develop a project to be completed within six months. Projects are based on their interests and the residency program needs.

Who is invited to participate?

The program is open to incoming chief residents and program faculty from the medical and surgical residency programs among NEOMED partners. These include: internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, surgery, orthopedics, psychiatry, urology, and ophthalmology.

How will the CRIT program benefit your residency program?

Residents who have attended CRIT programs report improved care of complex older patients, stronger leadership skill, more effective geriatric teaching and increased collaboration among disciplines.

In addition, residency programs have found the CRIT helpful in meeting their Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requirements for geriatrics.

What are the costs?

The program is offered at no charge for meals, room, and conference expenses for incoming chief residents and faculty members. Additional residents may attend by special request. Families are welcome and included in the Saturday evening dinner.
