The NEOMED Foundation strives to strengthen the financial capacity of Northeast Ohio Medical University and to broaden access to high quality medicine, pharmacy and graduate education. The Foundation works with the University as it endeavors to meet the health care workforce needs of Ohio and our nation, engages in groundbreaking health care research and serves the community. Founded in 1978 as the Medical Education Foundation, the Foundation accomplishes its mission through advocacy, fundraising, community outreach, investment management and stewardship of resources. The Foundation, comprised of health care, community and business leaders, is led by a 27-member volunteer Board of Directors.

John Bastulli, M.D. (’83), is director of anesthesia at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio where he also serves as medical director, surgical services and operating room manager.
Brian Cmolik, M.D. (’85), is associate chief of surgery at the Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio where he also serves as chief, section of cardiothoracic surgery.
Albert J. Cook II, M.D., is an interventional neuroradiologist at St. Elizabeth Health Centers in Youngstown, Ohio, and is the newly appointed Vice Chair of the Northeast Ohio Medical University Foundation Board of Directors for the 2013 fiscal year. He is a 1990 graduate of Northeast Ohio Medical University. Following his graduation, he completed his medical residency at the University of Wisconsin, and served as a fellow at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He and his family reside in Poland, Ohio.
David Koch is chief executive officer of the Jewish Community Board in Akron. His experience includes four years as director of fundraising and endowment development at the Jewish Federation of San Antonio, and a 25-year career in sales and marketing at Akron-based Belenky, Inc.
Koch is a graduate of Xavier University.
Ms. Lancaster, an attorney serving as special counsel to the Ohio Attorney General, practices privately in Canton, Ohio, and is principal and president of Global Management Group, Inc., a sports and entertainment company. Ms. Lancaster received her bachelor of science degree from Kent State University and a J.D. from The University of Akron School of Law.
Ms. Lancaster is an active trustee of the Akron University Law Alumni Association, a member of the Walsh University Board of Directors, a member of the Arts & Sciences Board, Kent State University, a member and executive officer of the Board of Directors of Mercy Medical Center and a member of the Canton Museum of Art. Her professional memberships include the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Stark County Bar Association, and the Sports Lawyer’s Association. She is active in number of community organizations, including The Links Inc.
In 2007, Ms. Lancaster created the Judith E. Barnes Lancaster Diversity Student Scholarship for a deserving Northeast Ohio Medical University student.
Dr. Patel is an assistant professor of internal medicine at NEOMED, an attending staff and medical oncologist at Summa Health System, Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital and Summa Health Center at Lake Medina. He is also in private practice at Summit Oncology Associates, Inc.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Akron, a Doctor of Medicine degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Auburn University. He currently serves as president of the NEOMED Alumni Association.
Robert Perry serves as vice president at Welty Business Company in Akron, Ohio, where he oversees business development for Ohio. He previously served as manager of suite sales for the Cleveland Browns, president of Legacy Healthcare Solutions and senior therapeutic director of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals.
Perry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Jefferson College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Kent State University. He resides in Shaker Heights.
Bruce E. Sherman, CPA, is president of Sherman CreativeBruce ShermanPromotions, Inc., a distributor of imprinted promotional materials. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Youngstown State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Sherman is a past president and current member of the board of the Youngstown State University Alumni Society, past chair and current member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley, member of the Board of Directors for Leadership Mahoning County (and graduate of the class of 1985), and past treasurer and current Board member at Interfaith Home Maintenance. He is also a trustee for the Frances and Lillian Schermer Charitable Trust and the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation.
David Sperling, M.D. David Sperling, M.D. received his bachelor’s from degree from Kent State University and was a graduate of Northeast Ohio Medical University in 1985. He completed his residency at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix Ariz. in 1988. He has been the associate director of family medicine education since 2001 and has been serving as the family medicine clerkship site director and associate professor of family medicine for the University since 2002. He has also served as clinical curriculum director for family medicine since 2010. Dr. Sperling has also been a member of both the Summa Health System stroke committee and family medicine lectureship committee since 2002. He is a volunteer preceptor at OPEN M clinic as well as a synagogue board member. Dr. Sperling has received many awards, including the Golden Shovel Award for resident teaching in 2002 and in 2006 as well as recognition as a “Top Doc” from 2006 until 2009. He is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Nicholas Sucic is currently vice president and controller at The Davey Tree Expert Company in Kent, Ohio. He joined the company in 2001 as corporate controller, chief accounting officer. Prior to Davey Tree, he served as chief financial officer of Vesper Corporation, held various asset management positions at The Prudential Investment Corporation, and was a partner at Ernest & Young, LLP.
Sucic earned a Bachelor of Business Accounting degree and a Master of Science degree in accounting from Kent State University. In 2006 he was named outstanding accounting alumnus of the year.
He is currently a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), Financial Executive International (FEI) and American Institute of CPA’s.
