About SZConsult

Treating schizophrenia-spectrum disorders is easy and rewarding – when the first-line treatments work as they are supposed to. Problem is: many of our patients do not achieve the results we and they desire. What to do next is not always clear. We are happy to help find the next steps. Our goal is to help medical professionals by giving them the knowledge and support to achieve the best results with the fewest medications.

SZconsult is a community of shared clinical experience and shared wisdom. We teach each other. We learn from each other. We solve clinical problems and change lives together.

SZconsult is based on the Project ECHO model for distance learning and consultation developed at the University of New Mexico. Project ECHO has been a great success with the clinicians who use it. Project ECHO combines the best elements of grand rounds, learning community and telemedicine consultation. More about the ECHO education(+)consultation model.

SZconsult meets for an hour each Tuesday at noon. Sessions are divided into case presentation/discussion time and brief didactics. Case presentation and discussion are central to SZconsult. Case presenters will receive feedback and written recommendations specific to their consultation requests. To organize the SZconsult meetings, and to track our progress we request that clinicians presenting cases send  a Case Report Form to SZconsult@neomed.edu.

Register for SZconsult.

SZconsult offers no-cost continuing medical education credit (AMA PRA Category 1) to physicians, physician assistants, or nurse practitioners who attend consultation sessions. SZconsult services are free, and it has no ties to any industry or commercial interests.

SZconsult is a public service offered by the Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center in NEOMED’s Department of Psychiatry.
