After a summer hiatus, Campus Updates with President John Langell resumed Monday, Aug. 28.
Dr. Langell started the program by welcoming students back to campus. He noted that the College of Medicine Class of 2027 includes 182 students; College of Pharmacy has 51 first-year students; and the College of Graduates Studies has a record enrollment of 68 new students.
Among other highlights:
- The recent Supreme Court decision on race-conscious admissions in higher education may impact NEOMED’s efforts to increase diversity on campus. Nevertheless, the University will continue to strive to be reflective of its communities within the confines of federal and state law.
- NEOMED is part of a seven-year, $56.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative.
- SummaCare notified the University that use of emergency departments and urgent care have gone up significantly (30% and 20%, respectively). If that trend continues, it could translate into a rate increase when the NEOMED contract is renewed in January 2025.
- The FY 2024 Ohio budget includes $4 million in new funding for the Bitonte College of Dentistry.
