NEOMED Students Respond to COVID-19 in the Community

Over the past month, a number of Northeast Ohio Medical University students have worked diligently to respond to COVID-19-related needs in their communities.

College of Medicine students Ashley Labatte, Alexis Schweibinz and Omar Azem each discovered ways to help those in need, while taking the proper precautions.

Labatte, a first-year medicine student, has been writing uplifting letters to quarantined seniors.

Schweibinz, a second-year medicine student, has been purchasing and delivering groceries for elderly adults and immunocompromised individuals who are unable to venture into grocery stores now.

Azem, a third-year medicine student, has collected more than 200 books for the Akron Public Schools.

“Having a presence like this, helping out in the community right now, says a lot about the quality of the kids we have here,” says Azem.
