NEOMED Alumnus Describes COVID-19 from the Lens of a Pharmacist

The COVID-19 pandemic has left a mark on all aspects of health care — including pharmacy.

Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy alumnus Vincent Peyko, Pharm.D. (’11), describes what life has been like as a clinical pharmacy specialist at Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, during COVID-19 in a Q&A with Valley Tough.

While the rest of the world has been adjusting to social distancing, Dr. Peyko says the precaution isn’t all that new to him and his family.

“The whole social distancing thing has my friends busting my chops. They laugh at me, saying I gave up shaking hands two years ago. With my infectious diseases background, once I had my first daughter, I gave up shaking hands a while ago — not entirely, but I am always conscious of my hands and touching my face.”
