NEOMED Alumnus Comments on Face Coverings and Exercise

Are face coverings required while gym patrons exercise? Northeast Ohio Medical University alumnus Michael (Mike) Sevilla, M.D. (’98), an associate professor of family and community medicine, recommends checking with each individual gym to see what their policies are.

If you do wear a face covering during your workout, Dr. Sevilla advises care in removing the covering afterward.

“As you’re taking off the mask, make sure you aren’t touching your eyes or your mouth and then when you put your mask down, make sure you have some hand sanitizer or wash your hands after you take off the mask,” says Dr. Sevilla.
