Local Physician Uses Art to Bring Hope to Neighbors

When Ann Leano, M.D., a Northeast Ohio Medical University clinical assistant professor of internal medicine, leaves the hospital for the day, she swaps her stethoscope for paint brushes and markers.

The critical care and pulmonary physician at Cleveland Clinic Akron General recently told the Akron Beacon Journal that she wanted to “spread some positive vibes” to her neighbors during the coronavirus pandemic, so she began creating homemade banners lined with messages of hope.

Dr. Leano’s banners have ranged from a mother and baby sloth hanging on a branch with “Hang in there Neighbors!” to a Black hand holding a white hand to form a heart.
