Nearly half of people living with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are not in treatment, even though services are available.
NEOMED’s Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center works to help people living with schizophrenia improve their lives. First, individuals need access to effective treatments—often a barrier for those with schizophrenia who do not know where to turn.
Lecia Bushak of Cleveland’s IdeaStream sat down with Erik Messamore, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of psychiatry at NEOMED (shown at right with students Nikhil Nadler, M2, and Katie Pawlicki, M4.), to discuss how the BeST Center helps to reduce stigma and remove barriers to the treatment so many people lack.
