Can COVID-19 Cause Heart Rate Problems?

Experts are learning more and more about COVID-19 every day — including about side effects that may be linked to the virus, like heart rate issues.

While it isn’t entirely clear why there seems to be a link between COVID-19 and irregular heart rates, Richard Watkins, M.D., a Northeast Ohio Medical University associate professor of internal medicine who specializes in infectious disease, tells Prevention readers, “I have never seen this after other infections, so I suspect it is another newly-recognized condition associated with COVID-19.”
