Campus-wide safety drill

The campus-wide safety drill scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at noon is quickly approaching.

As mentioned in previous communications, conducting drills helps ensure that students, faculty and staff know how to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies. The primary purpose is to practice established emergency procedures in a controlled setting so that, in a real situation, confusion and panic are minimized. Safety drills also help NEOMED identify weaknesses in evacuation routes, communication systems and response coordination.

Many of you have attended ALICE or Run, Hide, Fight training here at NEOMED. Remembering what you learned during that training will assist you during this drill as the drill will be an active threat type of scenario. Run, Hide, Fight are not steps, but options that can be exercised in any order. The selection of the options to be exercised will be dictated by the circumstances and external factors that you must evaluate.

Training helps people respond even through anxiety and fear. People who train are more mentally prepared and are more likely to take some kind of action. Don’t waste this training opportunity!
