Standardized Patient

Wasson Center Seeks Standardized Patients of All Ages

March 5, 2020

College student, working professional, retiree — it doesn’t matter, Northeast Ohio Medical University’s Wasson Center for Clinical Skills Training, Assessment, and Scholarship would like your help.

The Wasson Center is seeking standardized patients — of all ages — to assist in training and educating today’s and tomorrow’s health care providers.

Standardized patients are compensated individuals trained to portray patients with a certain medical condition, such as a chronic headache or stomach pain. Students interview the patients to practice their communication and physical examination skills.

Standardized patients may choose to participate in a variety of simulations that they have an interest in, which include interviews or encounters involving physical examinations and diagnosis exercises. These activities take place between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday or evening activities.

To apply to become a standardized patient, contact the Wasson Center for Clinical Skills Training, Assessment and Scholarship at 1.800.686.2511 ext. 6747.
