VITALS with Daniel Simon, M.D.

Daniel I. Simon, M.D., president, academic and external affairs and chief scientific officer, University Hospitals Health System, joins VITALS at noon Thursday, Sept. 14, in Watanakunakorn Auditorium and via Zoom. Lunch will be provided to those who preregister and attend in person.

Dr. Simon will have 17 minutes — the same length of time of the average physician-patient visit — to offer disruptive solutions to a health care challenge, covering any of the six components of VITALS: Value-based, Innovation, Technology, Advocacy, Leadership and Service.

For the remainder of the hour, Dr. Simon will engage in discourse with attendees, guided by moderator Monica Robins, senior health correspondent at WKYC-TV3 in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Dr. Simon leads the UH system’s strategy and performance across the spectrum of research including basic, translational, clinical and health services/outcomes. He also oversees UH’s graduate medical education and has primary responsibility for academic affiliations, including those with Case Western Reserve University, Oxford University, NEOMED, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and National Taiwan University College of Medicine. Dr. Simon is also charged with elevating the system’s performance in medical education and discovery to the highest levels and driving strategic philanthropy.

Dr. Simon is Ernie and Patti Novak Distinguished Chair Healthcare Leadership, professor of medicine and senior associate dean for academic affairs at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

A practicing cardiologist, Dr. Simon has published extensively in peer-reviewed basic science and clinical journals. He has served on the editorial boards of Circulation and Journals of the American College of Cardiology and is currently appointed to the editorial board of JAMA Cardiology.
