Diagnostic nuclear radiologist and Ohio poet laureate, Amit Majmudar, M.D. (’03)

The Imagination of a Scientist

A holy book admired by scientists. That’s how New York Times reviewer Parul Sehgal describes the ancient Bhagavad Gita.  Diagnostic nuclear radiologist Amit Majmudar, M.D. (’03) has now translated the 2,000-year-old poem—with commentary—in Godsong.

In a March 20 Times review of Godsong, Sehgal pronounced Dr. Majmudar’s translation as ‘’ravishing and faithful, marked by what Nabokov once called ‘the precision of a poet and the imagination of a scientist.’’’

Majmudar, who works as a radiologist in suburban Columbus, was named Ohio’s first Poet Laureate in December 2015 and served a two-year term in that capacity. He returned to NEOMED in Spring 2017 to speak at the University’s annual William Carlos Williams Poetry Competition.
