Summer Research Fellowship Program trains students
April 17, 2018
In Spring 2018, three student scientists mentored through NEOMED’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs 2017 Summer Research Fellowship Program were selected to present at the international meeting of the Dysphagia Research Society. Their mentor, Rebecca German, Ph.D., professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology, has no doubt that they developed skills they’ll apply for the rest of their careers through the Summer Research Fellowship program, which is offered to currently enrolled NEOMED students in the College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy.
No matter what direction medicine or pharmacy students pursue later, participating in the program helps them learn critical skills, like speaking in public and conveying what they have learned to other clinicians and scientists, notes German.
The ORSP Summer Research Fellowship Program is designed to enhance the student fellow’s research horizon and help them to develop scientific presentation and writing skills. The fellowship pays a stipend of $3,000.
Students apply for fellowships, as though they were applying for a job, to the faculty member whose project/s interests them, using the application included in a project catalog distributed to students in April. Project investigators have been asked to conduct interviews to select the student(s) who will be working on their project(s) by Monday, April 30, 2018.
This year’s Poster Day, at which students display scientific posters and explain their work to interested visitors, will be Friday, August 24.
