Students join IUC Advocacy Day in Columbus

Developing transformational leaders in the health sciences includes providing exceptional experiences for students to learn how to advocate for their professions.

Two students in the College of Medicine had such an experience on April 26, when they participated in the Inter-University Council Advocacy Day in Columbus, Ohio. IUC is an association of Ohio’s public universities.

Third-year student Sahana Harikrishnan and graduating student Negin Khosravi joined NEOMED President John Langell, M.D., Ph.D, John Stilliana, vice president for government relations and external affairs, and Janet Coon, associate director of governmental relations, in the capital.

The students met with legislators, including State Rep. Gail Pavliga (pictured), advocating for higher education in the State budget. They also attended the House session during which the budget bill (HB 33) was favorably voted out of the House.
