Two physicians who are prominent experts in the field of health care policy and advocacy will preside over a health care debate at NEOMED Saturday, Oct. 27.
John Ross, M.D., a former president of Physicians for a National Health Program, will present a model of a health care system revolving around a nationally funded health system. Dr. Ross is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Toledo. He also previously practiced and taught general internal medicine at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Sameer Lakha, M.D., is an anesthesiologist in New York, New York and is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital. He is also the founder of the Benjamin Rush Institute Chapter at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. Dr. Lakha will present a health care system based on maximizing the benefits of free enterprise in medicine.
While NEOMED SNaHP does, in principle, support one of these systems more than the other, the NEOMED SNaHP team thought it was important to represent both sides of the issue in a fair and unbiased manner. This debate will focus on being as educational as possible to provide students and guests with an ideal opportunity to learn about health policy and the changes that could potentially occur throughout our careers and our lives.
As future (and current) medical professionals we have an obligation to be educated on the current system, and also on the potential ramifications of alterations to the current system. We welcome all who are interested and hope that you leave feeling not that you have been coerced into believing in one system or another, but that you have been educated by the statements presented.
The doors to Cook Alumni Hall on the NEOMED campus will open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner being served shortly thereafter. The debate will start at 7:05 pm.
If you have any questions about the debate or the NEOMED SNaHP chapter, feel free to reach out to Trey Moberly at email@example.com or Lydia Du at Ldu@neomed.edu. The RSVP link is listed below for those of you who wish to attend. Note: The first 50 students to RSVP through the link sent to their email will receive free admission and dinner!
