President John Langell shared news from around NEOMED during the University Update on Monday, Oct. 23. Some of the highlights include:
- NEOMED researchers received notice of about $1 million in research grants over the previous month.
- Developmental neurologist Ronald Seese, M.D., Ph.D., will soon split his time between Akron Children’s Hospital and NEOMED.
- Joseph Marchiano, Pharm.D., R.Ph., BCGP, BCPS, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, was selected as a recipient of a 2023 Pharmacy Practice Sections and Forums Distinguished Service Awards from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
- Harmony Stanger, M.B.A., director of student affairs in the College of Medicine, received the 2023 Honorary Membership award from the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio.
- First-year medicine student Klarens Menage won the President’s Push-Up Challenge during the Week of Wellness with 108!
- More than $268,000 has been raised so far for Parkinson’s disease research at NEOMED through a campaign related to Dr. Sara Whittingham’s recent participation in Ironman Kona.
- The University’s 50th anniversary celebration will kick off on Nov. 15 with an event in the Jay A. Gershen Atrium of the NEW Center.
Following his remarks Dr. Langell introduced Lacey Madison, vice president for strategy and transformation, for a strategic planning update.
After noting that the current plan, Creating Transformational Leaders, is about 66% complete, Madison introduced members of the NEOMED community to share some success stories:
- Jaclyn Boyle, assistant dean for student success, College of Pharmacy, shared the successful completion of a new lactation room.
- Natalie Bonfine, associate professor of psychiatry, discussed welcome ambassadors and other initiatives to support and enhance the employee experience.
- Tori Carpenter, student services coordinator, and second-year medicine student Zach Stahl talked about the recent Women’s Day event, sponsored by the OB/GYN Interest Group, which brought more than 100+ people from all colleges to campus for a Saturday celebration.
- Julie Aultman, Ph.D., dean of the College of Graduate Studies, discussed the upcoming Student Research Symposium, on behalf of student Raman Bhambra.
