Researchers Presenting at American Heart Association Conference Nov. 16-18

Philadelphia is the site for this year’s American Heart Association Conference, and Northeast Ohio Medical University is well represented.

Scientists from NEOMED’s Heart and Blood Vessel Disease Research Focus Area were selected by the American Heart Association to present at the AHA Scientific Sessions at the conference, which is being held Nov. 16-18.

Representing the lab of Charles Thodeti, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences, Anantha Kanugula, Ph.D., is giving a Rapid Presentation Nov. 16 and a poster presentation Nov. 17. Dr. Thodeti will be present for both events. “Endothelial TRPV4 deletion protects myocardium against pressure overload induced hypertrophy via preserved angiogenesis and reduced cardiac fibrosis” is co-authored by Ravi K. Adapala, Ph.D.; Anantha K. Kanugula, Ph.D.; Vahagn Ohanyan, M.D., Ph.D.; Sailaja Paruchuri, Ph.D.; William M. Chilian, Ph.D.; and Charles K. Thodeti, Ph.D.

Dr. Paruchuri is a professor at the University of Akron; all of the other researchers are affiliated with NEOMED.

Chilian, Ohanyan and Yin Labs

Two presentations are being given representing the labs of Dr. Chilian, professor and chair of the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences; Dr. Ohanyan, assistant professor in the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences; and  Liya Yin, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences.

  • Vahagn Ohanyan, M.D., Ph.D., is presenting on the topic “Decreases in Coronary Vasodilator Reserve Increases the Risk for Heart Failure,” co-authored by Dr. Ohanyan; Liya Yin, M.D., Ph.D.; Lindsay Shockling; Thomas Pucci; Taylor Elder; Christopher Kolz and Dr. Chilian.
  • Emily Sullivan, a third-year College of Medicine student who worked with Dr. Chilian between her first and second years, is presenting on “The Age of Bone Marrow Cells Determines Coronary Collateral Growth,” co-authored by Sullivan, Parisa Shabani, Dr. Ohanyan, Lindsay Shocking, Molly Enrick, Thomas Pucci, Taylor Elder, Dr. Chilian and Dr. Yin.

 

Lab of Liya Yin

Two presentations are being given representing the lab of Dr. Yin.

  • Zhiyuan Wang, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Lin, is presenting on “The mediator of coronary dilation switch in metabolic syndrome,” co-authored by Wang, Cody Juguilon, Molly Enrick, Anurag Jamaiyar, Tao Wang, Chris Kolz, Dr. Chilian and Dr. Yin.
  • Anurag Jamaiyar, a graduate student working with Dr. Lin, is presenting on “A Novel Murine Model to Study Postnatal Coronary Collateral Growth by Lineage Tracing,” co-authored by Jamaiyar; Cody Juguilon, Devan Cumpston, James Gadd, Tao Wang, Molly Enrick,  Dr. Chilian and Dr. Yin.
