In a testament of resilience, determination and leadership, President John Langell recently participated in — and successfully completed — an Ironman race. Dr. Langell raced in the Paradox Ironman in Tempe, Arizona, on Sunday, Nov. 19.
The Ironman race, known for its grueling triathlon format consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a full marathon of 26.2 miles, is a true test of endurance and mental fortitude.
Dr. Langell finished the race in 13:09:24. He achieved 816th place out of 1,592 racers overall. But to Dr. Langell, his place in the race wasn’t as important as the reason he chose to participate — that is, to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease research and support his wife, Sara Whittingham, M.D., who was diagnosed with the disease three years ago.
