Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon Dennis Weiner

Dennis Weiner, M.D., a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon and director of pediatric orthopedic education at Akron Children’s Hospital who had served on the Northeast Ohio Medical University faculty since 1977, passed away from colon cancer June 19 at the age of 82, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

The Akron Beacon Journal article quoted Mark Adamczyk, M.D., a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and vice chair of the [Akron] Children’s [Hospital] department of orthopedic surgery, as saying, “Dr. Weiner was a visionary, becoming a pediatric orthopedic surgeon before the specialty even existed. He had extraordinary, infectious enthusiasm for his life and his work that inspired the generations of pediatric orthopedic surgeons who followed him and continue his legacy at Akron Children’s Hospital.”

Dr. Weiner was one of NEOMED’s first faculty members, serving as associate professor from 1977-1982, then as a professor of orthopaedic surgery until his passing.

Dr. Weiner’s son Scott Weiner, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon with Summa Health and a NEOMED professor of orthopaedic surgery.
