Northeast Ohio Medical University Appoints New Vice President for Government and External Affairs

Northeast Ohio Medical University has appointed John Stilliana as its next vice president for government and external affairs. He will assume this role effective Jan. 1, 2019, succeeding Richard Lewis, who is retiring December 31.

Stilliana currently serves as NEOMED’s director of state government and external affairs. In this role, Stilliana helped secure $2.8 million in state capital funding in 2018 and $2.1 million in state capital funding in 2016. Stilliana initiated the concept of instituting an opioid curriculum to be shared among Ohio’s seven medical schools – a concept adopted by the Ohio Council of Medical Deans.

He also played an integral role in having Bio-Med Science Academy recognized as a state-certified STEM+M school. In addition, Stilliana was instrumental in obtaining recognition by Ohio’s governor for Bio-Med Science Academy as one of the top seven schools in the state.

Stilliana holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in history from Cleveland State University.
