NEOMED Students Reach National Competition Finals
Rebecca Berg (at left in photo) and Jennifer Toth, a team of fourth-year students in the College of Pharmacy, were selected to participate Dec. 3 in the final round of the Clinical Skills Competition at the 2017 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Meeting in Orlando. The Clinical Skills Competition is a national contest in which two-person student teams from 135 pharmacy schools analyze a clinical scenario.
The semifinal consisted of teams working on a patient case, identifying drug-therapy problems and developing a care plan, complete with therapeutic goals and efficacy and safety monitoring—all within two hours. The teams who made it to the final round presented their case to judges for two minutes and answered questions from judges for eight minutes. Berg and Toth were among the top 11 scorers in the semifinal round, qualifying them to compete in the finals.
