NEOMED Responds to Need, Donates PPE

Responding to a multi-county need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health care providers during the COVID-19 epidemic, a team from Northeast Ohio Medical University collected and donated more than 50,000 pairs of gloves, along with masks, surgical gowns, respirators and more.

Items were donated from the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Graduate Studies, as well as from research laboratories and additional sites on campus.

Joseph Zarconi, M.D. (’81), professor and chair of internal medicine and the University’s medical director in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, was joined by Kali Meonske, chief of police at NEOMED, and Dale Hluch, director of campus operations, in the effort.

“Regional county emergency management teams have been working collaboratively to distributing PPE based upon need in a multi-county area,” said Dr. Zarconi. “Our intent is to have our donation divided across the counties of Portage, Stark, Mahoning, and Summit, where our larger clinical partner organizations are.”
