NEOMED Offers New Dual Pharmacy-Business Degree

Ravi Krovi, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business Administration at The University of Akron, notes, “The emphasis on cost control and effectiveness in health care has resulted in the need for professionals who also understand business fundamentals related to finance, operations, analytics and strategic decision-making. Working together with the faculty in the pharmacy college, we have been able to develop a program that interleaves our M.B.A. courses with the pharmacy courses so that the Pharm.D. students will be able to apply appropriate business learnings throughout their program.”

Two degrees can be more powerful in the workplace than one. So it’s good news for students in the College of Pharmacy at Northeast Ohio Medical University that they now have the opportunity to work toward an M.B.A. from the University of Akron College of Business while earning a Pharm.D. from NEOMED.

An agreement made between the two universities allows students enrolled in the medical university’s College of Pharmacy to apply to UA’s M.B.A. program as well.

Students who meet NEOMED’s standards for the PCAT (Pharmacy College Admission Test) will have their GMAT/GRE test requirements waived by UA, according to Charles Taylor, Pharm.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy at NEOMED. Of the 36-48 hours The University of Akron requires for an M.B.A., as many as 19 course credits already being taken by NEOMED Doctor of Pharmacy students can be counted as well toward the M.B.A.
