NEOMED Grad Helps Break Barriers for Transgender Students

A Northeast Ohio Medical University graduate is helping Penn State University students explore their gender identity.

Yvonne Patterson, M.D. (’83), a Penn State University Health Services physician and Living In Our Natural Selves (Lions) Team lead physician, has made it her mission to support the transgender community on campus.

In a recent interview with the Salem News, Dr. Patterson noted, “We’ve come a long way, but we still have a long way to go.”

The Lions Team provides collaborative care — addressing not just medical care but mental health care, too. From hormone replacement therapy to reconstructive surgery, the Lions Team works to support diversity and transgender care at Penn State University.
