On the day prior to Veterans Day, NEOMED took time to pay tribute to Military-connected members of the community with a Celebration of Military Service ceremony. President John Langell and Provost Forrest Faison, both military veterans, individually recognized NEOMED students, faculty, staff and alumni who have served or are currently serving in the military and thanked them for their service and sacrifice.
Dr. Faison also thanked those in attendance for taking time to celebrate “the real heroes of our country,” noting that less than one percent of the population enlists in the military.
Dr. Langell also thanked the military members in attendance “who have stepped up to protect our freedoms.” He also highlighted NEOMED’s Purple Star designation and the addition of the Purple Star Military Lounge.
Bill Johnson, president of Youngstown State University, gave a keynote address where he shared how his 26 years of service in the Air Force shaped his life and gave him opportunities that he would not have been granted if he did not serve. He also discussed the importance of the principles of “integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”
