NEOMED Accepting Applications for Anatomy Academy

Program offers immersive “low-stakes” medical school experience

Northeast Ohio Medical University is accepting applications for the University’s Anatomy Academy, a two-week institute that will offer high school and undergraduate students (16-year-olds and above), as well as adult learners, a hands-on experience. The Academy will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 18-29, 2018. An additional session will be held July 9-20 on the NEOMED campus.

The NEOMED Anatomy Academy features daily morning programming―foundational anatomy lectures, small group discussions and case-based clinical sessions―that engages students in understanding the core concepts of human anatomy. During the afternoon sessions, students actively participate in the dissection of human cadavers, imaging lab sessions and viewing cadaver brains, spinal cords and organs while learning basic suturing techniques.

All sessions are taught by Dana Peterson, Ph.D., an award-winning, nationally renowned professor of anatomy and neurobiology at NEOMED. Students from the University’s College of Medicine provide assistance.

“NEOMED is invested in offering a quality, immersive experience for students and adult learners,” said Dr. Peterson. “The opportunity to learn anatomy in a format similar to medical school will provide participants a preview of the content and rigor they will encounter, should they choose to pursue a graduate degree in one of the health professions.”

Registration is now available for 40 openings. Tuition is $2,500, and five full-tuition scholarships available for each session. Registration and application for scholarships are available at neomed-anatomy-academy-july.eventbrite.com.
