National pharmacy leader is next VITALS speaker

ABOUT MICHAEL D. HOGUE, PHARM.D.

Dr. Hogue is the 15th executive vice president and CEO of APhA.

Dr. Hogue has 30 years of experience in community practice as both a pharmacy owner and a staff pharmacist, as well as an ambulatory care provider in family and preventive medicine. He is an accomplished academician, having served on the faculty at Samford University and Loma Linda University. Prior to becoming CEO of APhA in 2023, Dr. Hogue was the Dean of Pharmacy at Loma Linda University with faculty appointments in both the schools of pharmacy and medicine. In addition, he was the director of interprofessional education and practice and was responsible for launching a comprehensive pharmacotherapy clinic in collaboration with LLU Health’s Faculty Medical Group.

Dr. Hogue served on the development team for the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery national certificate program for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, the immunization education standard for U.S. pharmacy professionals. Dr. Hogue was the first pharmacist appointed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to serve on its COVID-19 vaccine workgroup in April 2020, and he served as APhA’s liaison representative to the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) from 2020 through 2023. He also served on the ACIP Adult RSV Vaccine Workgroup.

Dr. Hogue was inducted into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame in 2018 and Alabama Pharmacy Hall of Fame in 2024 for decades of work in improving immunization rates among residents of the state through pharmacies. He was the first immunizing pharmacist in the state of Alabama in a community pharmacy in 1997.
