Maumee’s Sanjay Jinka to Serve as Student Member of Northeast Ohio Medical University Board of Trustees

Gov. Mike DeWine has appointed Sanjay Jinka, a third-year College of Medicine student at NEOMED, to serve as a student member on the Northeast Ohio Medical University Board of Trustees. Jinka’ s two-year term begins July 30, 2021 and ends June 29, 2023.

Jinka has a wide array of accomplishments and holds many leadership roles at NEOMED. He currently serves as an American Medical Association delegate, where he represents the interests of medical students on a national level. He also served as the Policy and Advocacy Committee Chair, where he played an instrumental role in adopting a resolution for the Ohio State Medical Association to increase donations of prescription drugs to the Ohio Drug Donation Repository for free clinic use. Jinka also serves on the University’s Professional and Development Advising Team, where he helps first-year medicine students become acclimated to the rigors of medical education.

Jinka currently works directly with patients and serves as outreach president for the Student-Run Free Clinic at NEOMED, which provides health care services to uninsured and underinsured members of the community. In his leadership role, he led a fundraiser that brought in more than $21,000 for the clinic. Additionally, Jinka has performed extensive service in the community, volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Make a Wish Foundation and the American Heart Association.

“I will be using my voice to help lead transformative change for our health care system,” said Jinka. “As someone entrenched in the NEOMED community as a student and volunteer, I have developed the leadership traits and forward-looking perspective to prepare to be effective in this role.”

A graduate of Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio, Jinka was a National Merit Scholar at Kent State University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in integrated life sciences, graduating summa cum laude.
