Congratulations to Matthew Carrizal, a second-year medicine student, who was honored with the Medical Student Report Award from the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists. The award was presented in recognition of his abstract at the resident’s poster competition during the society’s 84th Annual Conference in September. His noteworthy achievement was a result of his dedicated efforts in presenting two case reports.
Over the summer, Matthew worked with mentor Alexandrea Garrett, M.D. (’20), a PGY4 resident at Ohio State University who specializes in anesthesiology. Matthew’s award-winning report focused on Anesthetic Management of a Bronchopleural Fistula for Non-Thoracic Surgery. This case not only stood as a unique experience for the student, but also holds the potential to serve as a valuable guideline for physicians, offering hope to patients facing similar challenges.
