Local Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observances and festivities

Here are some activities taking place in Northeast Ohio in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, and over the weekend.

SATURDAY, JAN. 13

Portage County NAACP Martin Luther King Breakfast

The annual breakfast is 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Kent United Church of Christ. The theme of this year’s breakfast is “Let’s Strive Together.”

SUNDAY, JAN. 14

47th Annual Celebration of the Life and Work of Dr. Martin Luther King

Featuring a performance by BeBe Winans. The annual event hosted by Cuyahoga Community College at Playhouse Square is sold out, but you can access the live stream via the weblink on Sunday from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Cleveland Orchestra: Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Concert

The 7 p.m. concert on Sunday will be live streamed on the orchestra’s YouTube page.

MONDAY, JAN. 15

The Akron Art Museum: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with FREE public hours at the museum. Related photographs from the collection will be on view and interactive activities will be available in the lobby.

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland: Martin Luther King Day Liturgy

Fr. John Judie from the Archdiocese of Louisville will celebrate the 12 p.m. Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in observance of MLK Day.

The Cleveland Museum of Art

A full day of interactive, family-friendly activities are planned from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. in the Ames Family Atrium, Gartner Auditorium and Galleries.
