NEOMED students and alumni recently gained firsthand insight into leadership, innovation and the power of teamwork in healthcare during a special event featuring Cleveland Browns head team physician James Voos, M.D.
The event, billed as a “Chalk Talk,” was held Wednesday, March 18, at the Browns’ headquarters in Berea on its CrossCountry Mortgage Campus. The experience reflects NEOMED’s ongoing partnership with the organization, presenting unique ways for the University’s students and faculty to engage with leaders at the intersection of medicine and professional sports.
During his remarks, Dr. Voos emphasized the importance of innovation in advancing patient care, while also underscoring a broader message about purpose and community impact.
“No matter what specialty you’re in, you have the opportunity to get outside of the walls of the hospital and impact your community,” he said.
His message resonated with students preparing to enter an evolving healthcare landscape—one that increasingly values collaboration, adaptability and real-world engagement.
Attendees toured the Browns’ state-of-the-art training and treatment facilities, where they explored cutting-edge technologies used in sports medicine. These innovations, Dr. Voos noted, not only enhance an athlete’s performance and recovery, but also contribute to improving and standardizing care across healthcare settings.
In addition to serving as head team physician for the Cleveland Browns, Dr. Voos is chair of the University Hospitals Department of Orthopedic Surgery and a nationally recognized expert in orthopedic and sports medicine.
The conversation offered a powerful reminder that healthcare, much like professional sports, is a team effort—one that depends on leadership, innovation and a shared commitment to improving lives.
