Kailey Christman earns national scholarship

Kailey Christman, a fourth-year student in the College of Medicine, is one of 23 students nationally to be awarded the 2024 Foundation Student Scholarship from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM).

According to the organization’s website, STFM is a national community of academic leaders committed to developing an accomplished family medicine workforce, prepared to serve as the foundation of America’s health care system.

The goal of this scholarship is to recognize scholars with “a strong commitment to academic family medicine through scholastic, volunteer, and leadership pursuits.”

As a recipient, Christman receives free STFM membership during her first year of residency and the opportunity to attend the 2024 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education in Atlanta, Georgia, from Feb. 8-11, 2024.

Christman remarked, “When I received the nomination for the scholarship, I was very honored! As a first-generation medical student, I am grateful to the faculty who have guided me through medical school and inspired me to do family medicine. My personal interests also include mentoring and teaching, so it truly was such an honor to win the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Foundation Student Scholarship!”

At the conference, she plans to present her poster, titled “Creation and value of clerkship guidebooks for third-year medical students.” The poster will explore the process of creating a pocket-sized clerkship guidebook. The inspiration for this topic came from Christman’s time during her third-year rotations. She shares, “I hope that my poster provides insight to the perceived value of the guidebooks by current rotators and also provides a starting point for other students or clerkship faculty who wish to create one as well!”
