It’s a Match! Pharmacy Students Rank High

Hospitals throughout Northeast Ohio, including University Hospitals – Geauga Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Clinic Akron General, MetroHealth Medical Center and Summa Health System, will welcome 32 Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy students for their residencies this year.

NEOMED students also matched at ProMedica Toledo Hospital & Children’s Hospital, as well as at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

This year’s NEOMED grads matched at a success rate 24 percent higher than the national average for Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) residencies. Selections were made through the recent American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Residency Matching Program.

Seven NEOMED College of Pharmacy alumni (from the Classes of 2018 and 2019) pursued specialized Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY2) training programs this year. The pharmacists had a 100% success rate, placing in programs for critical care, emergency medicine, psychiatry and pharmacy informatics.

About the Match Process

The 2-phase pharmacy match process, which is similar to programs of other health care professions, including medicine, is conducted annually. For pharmacists, the residency match is optional. Regardless of whether they chose to participate in the match, all NEOMED College of Pharmacy students graduating in May will receive Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degrees.
