IntraCity Leadership Visit Comes to NEOMED

Business, community, government and university leaders throughout Northeast Ohio convened at NEOMED on Tuesday, Oct. 10, to hear President Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., speak on a panel with the presidents of Kent State University, Stark State College and The University of Akron. Moderated by Robert Reffner, Chair of the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education and general counsel at FirstEnergy, the panel spoke on the topic “Myth Versus Reality: Higher Education and Northeast Ohio’s Talent Supply Chain.”

At a breakfast on Tuesday, Steven Schmidt, Ph.D., professor of pharmaceutical sciences, vice president for research, and dean of the College of Graduate Studies at NEOMED, was a presenter on a panel discussion on how university research and business needs can be better linked. Moderated by KSU President Beverly Warren, the event took place at the Kent State University Integrated Sciences Building.

Both events were part of the IntraCity Leadership Visit organized by the Greater Akron Chamber to provide an overview of the innovation and urban developing occurring in the Greater Akron region. From Sunday through Tuesday, the regional leaders visited sites including Akron’s Northside District; Lock 4; Southside Innovation District, North Hill Neighborhood; The University of Akron and Canal Park.
