Inaugural Anatomy Academy

From anatomy lectures and group discussions to dissections and lessons in how to suture (stitch), the inaugural group of NEOMED Anatomy Academy students had the chance to step into the shoes of a medical student during the last two weeks of July. High school students, undergraduates and current medical professionals interested in refining their skills received hands-on training in the core concepts of anatomy. Dana Peterson, Ph.D., a professor of anatomy and neurobiology, led the sessions, assisted by several second-year College of Medicine students.

“You just don’t get a true appreciation of the three-dimensional relationship of these structures unless you physically have seen them, touched them and manipulated them in some way and that’s what this experience offers,” Dr. Peterson said in a recent interview with Cleveland.com’s Hannah Drown.
