In the news: Bitonte College of Dentistry cited as part of the solution to Ohio’s ‘dental deserts’

A recent letter to the editor of the Scioto Valley Guardian highlighted efforts throughout Ohio to improve or eliminate oral health ‘deserts’ in the state.

Hal S. Jeter, D.D.S., President-elect, Ohio Dental Association, shared, “the challenges of closing the gap of access to high quality dental care are many. Barriers such as transportation, low dental IQ, anxiety, and lack of any dental insurance continue to plague the system.”

Dr. Jeter noted ongoing efforts that provide hope in addressing those challenges, including the creation of the Bitonte College of Dentistry at NEOMED.

“Bitonte’s [College] leadership has articulated that a primary tenet of its existence is to produce providers who will specifically migrate to health provider shortage areas in response to the need,” he said.
