Ignite Magazine Named Best Trade Publication in Ohio

Northeast Ohio Medical University’s Ignite magazine was honored with eight awards, including Best Trade Publication in Ohio, at the statewide Press Club of Cleveland Excellence in Journalism Awards dinner held Friday, June 7, at the House of Blues in Cleveland. Judges for the Best Trade Publication award commented, “Great Design: Visually dynamic with great illustrations, etc.”

The judges called Roderick L. Ingram Sr.’s article “The United Silence of America” (second place, Trade Publications Trade Report) “a well needed ‘talk’ about mental illness in America.”

Writing about Elaine Guregian’s “Women in Surgery: A Rising Tide” (first place, Trade Publications Features/Trends), the judges said, “The open grafs laid the groundwork, leading to the interesting personal stories of the surgeons and how they made their way into the OR.”

This year’s competition drew 800 entries from throughout the state of Ohio.

Elaine Guregian is Ignite magazine’s editor and assistant director of the Office of Marketing Communications. The magazine’s designer is Scott J. Rutan; Roderick L. Ingram Sr. is NEOMED’s chief marketing officer. Frequent contributor Dave Szalay is an associate professor of art at the University of Akron Myers School of Art.
