Former Chair of Bioethics at National Institutes of Health to Speak at NEOMED’s Monthly VITALS Series

Ezekiel J. Emanuel, M.D., Ph.D., Vice Provost for Global Initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania, will be the speaker at NEOMED’s monthly VITALS series on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Dr. Emanuel, a breast oncologist and author, was the founding chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health. He has received numerous awards including election to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science, the Association of American Physicians, and the Royal College of Medicine (UK). Additionally, Hippocrates Magazine selected him as Doctor of the Year in Ethics

The monthly VITALS series features a diverse group of innovative leaders in the health care sector. Each speaker has 17 minutes – the same length of time duration of the average physician-patient visit – to offer disruptive solutions to health care’s biggest problems. Approaches may cover any of the six components of VITALS: Value-based, Innovation, Technology, Advocacy, Leadership and Service. The speaker then engages in discourse with attendees for the remainder of the hour. Attendees are invited to submit questions. Speakers range from regional university partners at public, private and health care systems to national peers, alumni and thought leaders.

Continuing education credits will be made available through Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), through the sponsorship of Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Like all VITALS events, the Feb. 4 program featuring Dr. Emanuel is available as a Zoom webinar. It is free and open to the public. Visit neomed.edu/vitals to register, watch past segments, or learn more.
