First UH-NEOMED Scholars are named

Six students and 30 faculty members were honored as the first UH-NEOMED Faculty and Student Scholars during a special presentation on March 7 at NEOMED.

The honorees are recognized for their outstanding achievements and their commitment to representing the core values of both University Hospitals and NEOMED.

NEOMED President John Langell welcomed guests and shared how the scholars program aligns with the goals of the UH-NEOMED affiliation agreement.

“Thank you to University Hospitals for this incredible recognition,” he said, before welcoming to the podium Daniel Simon, M.D., president for Academic & External Affairs, and chief scientific officer, University Hospitals Health System.

“When Dean [Marc] Basson and President Langell sent me these recommended faculty scholars to look at, it was one of the easiest things that I had to do, because your track record was really amazing and it was very impressive. It was great to read the applications that were so diverse along the tripartite issues of healing, teaching and discovering,” Dr. Simon noted. “We have an aspiration to be better and we are certain that our relationship with you is going to help us get better and we are going to count on this faculty here to help.”

Dr. Simon gave a special “shout out” to researchers in the newly named University Hospitals Hearing Research Center at NEOMED.

“It is really impressive to see a group of investigators with such robust [NIH] funding… and it’s a model for many other of our departments to follow,” he said.
