Students at the Community Service Fair

Finding Ways to Serve Others

Students filled the atrium outside NEOMED’s Watanakunakorn Auditorium on Wednesday, Jan. 10, to learn about local volunteer opportunities at the second annual NEOMED Community Service Fair. More than 70 students signed up to speak with representatives from local service agencies and organizations, from Planned Parenthood and Coleman Professional Services to Hattie Larlham and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

With more than 20 organizations in attendance, students had the chance to familiarize themselves with many local agencies and find their own niche in giving back to others. More than one student mentioned that as busy as they are, it was helpful to have the organizations brought to them, instead of having to seek them out independently.

Jennifer Chishko, a first-year student in the College of Medicine, said, “I’m working to get involved in the community through service opportunities. The Community Service Fair really laid out options for us.”
