College of Pharmacy Student Selected for National Honor
Mackenzie Lloyd, a rising fourth-year Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy student, has been named as a 2020 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholar.
Lloyd is one of just 85 graduate students, professional (doctoral) students, residents and fellows from across the country to be selected.
According to AACP, “The goal of the scholarship program is to strengthen the recipient’s skills and commitment to a career in academic pharmacy through their participation at the AACP Annual Meeting.”
Lloyd was nominated by Mate Soric, Pharm.D., chair and associate professor of pharmacy practice.
“Whether it be pharmacotherapeutics exams, simulated patient encounters, or Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE), Mackenzie’s performance puts her among the very best students our institution has had the pleasure of matriculating. When you get to know her, however, you quickly realize that she brings much more to the table than test-taking skills and good study habits. She has a true dedication to teaching and learning that few students possess,” says Dr. Soric.
Lloyd also serves as a peer advisor and early assurance mentor to College of Pharmacy students.
“In addition to her interests in teaching and mentoring, Mackenzie has a passion for giving back to the profession and the College of Pharmacy. She has taken on leadership roles in numerous organizations, such as secretary of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists, marketing chair for the Student College of Clinical Pharmacy, fundraising chair for Phi Lambda Sigma, and OTC Medication Safety chair for the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists. These examples are only the currently active leadership positions she has taken on! Her curriculum vitae is full of leadership roles and service activities that demonstrate her dedication to the profession,” says Dr. Soric.
