It’s hard to avoid acronyms in any profession, and the health professions are no exception.
To help new students avoid drowning in alphabet soup, the Office of Student Services put together a reference guide to some of the more common acronyms used at NEOMED and in the health professions, according to readers of The Pulse.
Among the 135 responses, the most commonly mentioned acronyms were:
- BeST Center – Best Practices in Schizophrenic Treatment Center
- CAPP – Committee on Academic and Professional Progress
- LOA – Leave of Absence
- AAMC – Association of American Medical Colleges
A few of the more unusual or specialty-specific acronyms included:
- CPR – Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, Renal (Not to be confused with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
- ERAS – Electronic Residency Application Service (Not to be confused with Taylor Swift’s world tour)
- SCUBA – Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (Is there a new rotation opportunity we don’t know about?)
