Congratulations to NEOMED alumna Poojajeet Khaira, M.D. ’02, who was recognized among the 2025 “40 Under 40” by Crain’s Cleveland Business.
Dr. Khaira is a fourth-year psychiatry resident physician with The MetroHealth System in Cleveland. She was named academic chief resident for MetroHealth earlier this year.
She also serves as co-chair of the American Psychiatric Association resident fellow member caucus and has been working with a colleague to develop a Sikh Mental Health Summit, which will take place in December.
In the interview with Crain’s, Dr. Khaira talked about her commitment to mental health care.
“What keeps me going is that I truly am helping someone,” she said in the interview. “I think there’s such a huge mental health crisis across the world right now, not just in our country, but is becoming more and more apparent, and I feel like there’s such a need. I know that I’m helping just a little bit with that need, so that makes me feel fulfilled.”
Crain’s “40 Under 40” honors young leaders who have demonstrated professional achievement, leadership and dedication to community impact. According to the article, “they represent the next generation of executives, innovators and changemakers advancing our economy and civic life. Across industries, their work reflects both excellence and purpose.”
